REACH programs initiated in Virginia to train PCPs on managing mental health conditions in children and adolescents.
May 2018
Healthy Minds, Healthy Children program established to educate PCPs on managing pediatric mental health conditions.
September 2018
VMAP established through HRSA grant awarded to VDH in partnership with the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (VA-AAP).
December 2018
VMAP holds first stakeholder meeting.
January 2019
Virginia Governor’s budget includes $1.23M for VMAP, which supports implementing services in northern and eastern Virginia.
August 2019
VMAP Line opens.
January 2020
Medical Society of Virginia Foundation named VMAP program administrator by DBHDS.
Virginia Governor’s budget includes $4.22M to fund VMAP implementation statewide. Shortly after, funding frozen due to COVID-19.

October 2020
First regional hub services initiated in VMAP’s northern region out of Inova and CNH, including care navigation and licensed mental health professionals to assist with PCP consults.
November 2020
VMAP funding restored during Virginia Special Session, allowing VMAP to continue expanding statewide.
January 2021
VMAP regional hub services initiated in its eastern region out of CHKD.
May 2021
VMAP Line reaches 1,000 consults.
July 2021
VMAP regional hub services initiated in its southwest region out of Mt. Rogers CSB.
August 2021
VMAP regional hub services initiated in its central region out of VCU Health.
February 2022
VMAP Line reaches 2,000 consults!
VMAP initiates first specialized Project ECHO on ages 0-5.
March 2022
VMAP regional hub services initiated in its western region out of UVA.
